Who are you? How can I contact you?

My name's Rachel Cotterill. If you want to know more you can visit my personal website or (for more about me than you ever wanted to know) my blog. I'm afraid I can't promise an instant reply to all your comments, because I was a fairly busy person even before I committed myself to writing some 4000 words every week... but I will try to keep up!

Why are you serialising the novel like this?

There are two main reasons I'm doing it this way.

One is because I'd personally like to see more books available in a serial form like this - people are accustomed to tuning in for the next episode of their favourite TV drama, or checking RSS for webcomics, so I see this as an attempt to take a novel into the same space. It's really not a new idea - Dickens wrote in an episodic style and his works were published in weekly or monthly journals.

Which brings me on to the second reason. I'm actually writing this as I go along, more or less - but I naturally write in a very scatty fashion, skipping from one part of the series to another. By doing this, I'm hoping to impose enough discipline on myself to make sure that I at least finish volume one before volume five!

Where are the dragons? The elves? The wizards?

Ahhhh... 'fantasy' is a broad label, albeit an inescapable one if you enjoy inventing worlds and societies. If you tarry long enough in the darker corners of these parts you may meet the occasional witch, but it's unlikely you'll see any evidence to convince you of her magic. Much like our world in that respect.

Can you make the files available to download in a different format?

Let me know what you want, and I'll see what I can do. I've recently added PDF downloads, so I am listening!
